How To Write A Convincing Push Notification Copy

What are browser push notifications? In case you don’t know, here’s a recap: -
Browser Push Notifications are real-time instant clickable messages that are sent by the server (website) to the client (subscriber).  These messages can be purely textual or can be merged with an image.  This text in the message is known as the copy.

Copy is the written material which is to be set in type for any form of communication. Copywriting is the single most crucial activity for the success of any campaign as the entire campaign depends largely on it. Similarly, for browser push notifications, writing a convincing and persuasive copy is of prior importance. It is the copy which convinces the user to take action. It plays an important role in the effectiveness of browser push notifications.

The below listed tips would help you in writing a crisp and convincing notification copy:-

1.      CLARITY OF EXPRESSION

If people can’t understand what you are trying to say, then your message is probably not useful. Whatever message you are trying to deliver should be very clear. It should not create any misunderstanding or confusion in the minds of the users. The sentence formation should be very crisp and simple.

Example: - CREATIVE DIVAS- Sale
CREATIVE DIVAS- Flat 50% off on all summer apparels
Thus, it is very clear from the second message that there is a summer sale whereas the first message is a bit unclear and might not be very convincing for the readers.

2.      MAINTAIN BREVITY

“Brevity is the soul of the wit.” Concise and exact use of words can create a very powerful message. The message should never be overloaded with content which might be monotonous and drive the viewer’s away.

However maintaining brevity doesn’t mean that one can miss out on certain points. Completeness should never be given up for brevity.

3.      ACTION ORIENTED MESSAGE

Informing the audience is not enough. AIDA (Attention-Interest-Desire-Action) factors should always be kept in mind while designing a message. The copy should be written in such a way that it stimulates the user to take action. The message should be persuasive enough so that the reader is bound to visit your website without giving a second thought.

Words like you, try, free, click, opportunity, find and grow are more likely to persuade the users.

4.      USE FEAR/EMOTIONAL APPEAL

Appeal is a promise that a particular product or service is going to offer you. Emotions can elicit a powerful response. Try to deliver your message in a way that it triggers the user’s emotions. Also, using a scarcity or fear appeal is more likely to influence the users. Using appeals creates an urgency which stimulates the users to take action.

For example: “Offer valid for a limited period only”. (Scarcity/Fear appeal)
“Your family needs you”. (Emotional appeal)

5.      PROVIDE A VALID EVIDENCE

Using a social proof or evidence would build trust in the minds of the users.

For example: “1500 people are currently watching this video”

Therefore, If you wish to increase your users, writing an effective copy is essential. Refer to the above listed points which would help you in writing a convincing copy.
